Vietā, kur Mežtaka 13. posmā šķērso tagadējo Pleskavas šoseju – kādreizējo Rīgas–Pēterburgas ceļu – atrodas Līzespasts, kura ēkas celtas 19. gs. vidū, cara Nikolaja I laikā, kā krogs un zirgu pasta stacija, kas kalpoja zirgu un kučieru nomaiņai. Zirgu pasts nodrošināja vēstuļu, naudas un arī ceļotāju pārvadāšanu par samaksu. No Līzespasta līdz Trapenei 5 km garumā Mežtaka izlokās caur atklātām un lauksaimniecības ainavām ar atsevišķām viensētām, iezīmējot Alūksnes augstienes rietumdaļas paugurainās nogāzes. Apmēram pusi no minētajiem 5 km abpus ceļam slejas iespaidīgā Trapenes lapegļu aleja, kurā uzskaitītas vairāk nekā 600 lapegles, un daudzi koki sasnieguši dižkoku apmērus. Aleja ir aizsargājama un īpaši nozīmīga dažādu kukaiņu sugu daudzveidības saglabāšanai. Lapegļu stādus, kas atvesti no Rietumsibīrijas, muižkunga Tuša vadībā stādījuši latviešu zemnieki un kalpi 20. gadsimta sākumā. .

Description of the place:
At the point where the 13th section of the Forest Trail crosses the present Pskov Highway, the former Riga-Petersburg Road, is Līzespasts, whose buildings were built in the mid-19th century when tsar Nicholas I was in power, as an inn and horse post station for the exchange of horses and drivers of the carriages. The horse post office transported letters, money and travellers for a fee. For 5 kilometers from Līzespasts to Trapene the Forest Trail meanders through open and agricultural landscapes with isolated farmhouses, marking the hilly slopes of the western part of the Alūksne Highland. For about half of the mentioned 5 km on either side of the road, there is the impressive Trapene Larch Alley, with more than 600 larch trees, many of which have reached the size of venerable trees. The avenue is protected and of particular importance for the conservation of the diversity of insect species. The larch seedlings, brought from West Siberia, were planted by Latvian peasants and servants in the early 20th century under the direction of the nobleman Tušs.

The cache is a part of the “The Forest Trail” cache series. The Forest Trail is a part of the European long-distance hiking route E11 in the Baltic States, which leads through the most beautiful forests and national parks of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The project, which has been developed with the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund Central Baltic Programme 2014-2020, includes 45 cache places in the northern part of the Forest Trail from Old Riga to the Estonian border. We recommend combining cache hunting with a walk along one of the 15 scenic sections of the northern part of the Forest Trail.
