Tepat Rīgas pievārtē ir iespēja pārliecināties, ka Latvija ir mežu valsts, jo uzreiz aiz Rīgas robežas plešas skaistie Garkalnes meži ar staltām priedēm, apaugušām kāpām un ārkārtīgi reto, eksotisko zaļo vārnu, kas patiesībā nav nedz zaļa, nedz vārna. Tā sāka darboties 1904. gadā, kad uzcēla Baltezera sūkņu staciju. 1988. gadā sūkņu stacijā izveidoja Rīgas ūdensapgādes muzeju, kas iepazīstina ar Rīgas ūdensapgādes sistēmas četrus gadsimtus ilgo vēsturi, tehniskiem mehānismiem, senajiem koka cauruļvadiem. Te var iepazīt arī “Compound” tipa tvaika mašīnas, čuguna sifonvadus un spiedvadus, kas izgatavoti Rīgā, Felzera mašīnbūves rūpnīcā, kā arī tvaika katlus, kas izgatavoti R. Poles mašīnbūves rūpnīcā Rīgā. Šajā apkaimē vēl aizvien notverama senatnes dvesma, pateicoties esošajām ēkām — katlu un mašīnu ēkām, strādnieku dzīvojamiem namiem un mehāniskajām darbnīcām. Pie muzeja var redzēt arī arhitektoniski izteiksmīgos Rīgas ūdenstorņus.

Iesakām apvienot slēpņu meklēšanu ar pastaigu pa kādu no 15 ainaviskajiem Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmiem.

There is a chance to make sure that Latvia is a forest country, as the beautiful Garkalne forest with its stately pine trees, and the extremely rare exotic green crow, which is not really green or a crow, are just behind the border of Riga. In this wooded area, a unique infrastructure system for Latvia has been installed on sandy soils - the Riga water supply area with artisanal wells and water filtration layers. It began operating in 1904 when Baltezers pumping station was built. In 1988, the Riga water supply museum was created at the pumping station, which presents the four-century history of the Riga water supply system, its technical mechanisms as well as ancient wooden pipelines. Here you can also see the steam engines of the “Compound” type, cast-iron siphons and pressure mains made in Riga, at the Felzer Mechanical Engineering Plant, as well as the steam boilers manufactured by R. Pole Mechanical Engineering Plant in Riga. There is still a whiff of antiquity in this area, thanks to the ancient buildings, such as boiler and machine buildings, worker residential houses and mechanical workshops. The architecturally expressive Riga water-towers can also be seen at the museum.

The geocache is part of the “FOREST TRAIL” series of geocaches. The Forest Trail is a part of the European long-distance hiking route E11 in the Baltic States, which runs through the most beautiful forests and national parks of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. In the northern part of the Forest Trail created with the financial support of the Transborder Cooperation Programme for 2014–2020 of the European Regional Development Fund for the Central Baltic Sea Region 45 geocaches have been deployed between the Old Riga and the Estonian border. We recommend combining the geocache search with a walk through one of the 15 landscape sections of the northern part of the Forest Trail.
