Geocache Description:

Here is the Pontypridd War Memorial in a prominent hilltop position on the western edge of Coedpenmaen common in Pontypridd with some great views overlooking Treforest, Pontypridd and Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.
The main monument is a regimental war memorial which was unveiled in 1923 to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who died and went missing in the 1st World War. Like many other war memorials, it was later amended to include reference to the Second World War. It is a tall obelisk of coursed, rock-faced sandstone on a deep square base and stepped stone plinth, and with polished granite inscription panels. On the west side of the base, overlooking the town, is a large inscription panel with a First World War dedication, while on the remaining faces are smaller panels recording regimental campaigns (Palestine, Egypt, Gallipoli). Below the main panel is a smaller panel with a Second World War dedication.
Beside the main monument in the locked gated compound is a second memorial stone and plaque placed in 2005 which is a reminder of the involvement of the troops from Wales in the 1944 liberation of 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.
Down below this hilltop position is Ynysangharad War Memorial Park where a second memorial was completed in 2011 including a full roll of honour of the 1,319 Pontypridd men killed in conflict and is a short drive away and well worth a visit. The names were compiled using limited records and information from the public. You do not need to go there to find this geocache. The park was renamed as a War Memorial Park in 1923 at the same time as the hilltop monument was unveiled.

This is a short multi cache right here on the common by the monument and the physical cache is placed a short distance away at N51 36.ABC W03 19.DEF
