Latvieši vaivariņu lietojuši pret saaukstēšanās slimībām, arī pret kodēm un utīm. Sibīrijas šamaņi vaivariņu kopā ar paegli izmantojuši savos rituālos kā kvēpekli, ģermāņu tautas – kā reibinošu alus piedevu. Arī latviešu tautas dziesmās tas pieminēts:

Slēpnis ir ābola izmēra konteiners, tajā iekšā ir viesu grāmata un zīmulis. Slēpnī ievietots arī auga eksemplārs, lai slēpņotājiem būtu iespējams atpazīt augu dabā. Lūgums slēpni rūpīgi aizvērt un nolikt atpakaļ precīzā atrašanas vietā, piestiprinātu.
Slēpnis ir daļa no slēpņu sērijas „MEŽTAKA”. Mežtaka ir Eiropas garās distances pārgājienu maršruta E11 daļa Baltijas valstīs, kas ved cauri Latvijas, Lietuvas un Igaunijas skaistākajiem mežiem un nacionālajiem parkiem. Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmā no Vecrīgas līdz Igaunijas robežai, kurš izstrādāts ar Eiropas Reģionālās attīstības fonda Centrālā Baltijas jūras reģiona pārrobežu sadarbības programmas 2014.–2020. gadam finansiālu atbalstu, izvietoti 45 slēpņi. Iesakām apvienot slēpņu meklēšanu ar pastaigu pa kādu no 15 ainaviskajiem Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmiem.

Do you recognise the smell of Labrador-tea? Some may remember it from their grandmother's woollen yarn bag or wardrobe, where it was placed to repel moths. Others know it from picking berries in Latvia's forests and marshes. Even walking along the Forest Trail, you will sometimes smell this strong, even dizzying scent. The Labrador-tea is an evergreen shrub 30-120 cm tall with narrow, elongated leaves. Although the plant is poisonous, it has long been used for healing. Latvians used Labrador-tea for colds, moths and lice. Siberian shamans used Labrador-tea and junipers in their rituals as a lighting source; Germanic people used it as an intoxicating addition to beer. It is also mentioned in Latvian folk songs:
I weaved a wreath
From the Labrador-tea;
I put it on Jānis,
For him to get drunk without drinking.
Description of the cache:
The cache is an apple-sized container with a guest book and a pencil inside. A specimen of the plant is also placed in the cache, so that the curious-for-cache hikers can identify the plant in the wild. Please close the cache carefully and put it back in its exact location, attached.
The cache is a part of the “The Forest Trail” cache series. The Forest Trail is a part of the European long-distance hiking route E11 in the Baltic States, which leads through the most beautiful forests and national parks of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The project, which has been developed with the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund Central Baltic Programme 2014-2020, includes 45 cache places in the northern part of the Forest Trail from Old Riga to the Estonian border. We recommend combining cache hunting with a walk along one of the 15 scenic sections of the northern part of the Forest Trail.
