Gaujienas pilsmuižai ir sena vēsture, kuras saknes rodamas jau no 18. gadsimta sākuma Ziemeļu kara laikiem. Pils celtniecību pabeidza 18. gs. beigās, un šobrīd pils apbūves ansamblis ir Valsts nozīmes arhitektūras piemineklis. Muižas parkā 19. gs. beigās no dolomīta akmeņiem mākslīgi veidotā grotā tika iemūrēta lauvas galva ar atvērtu muti, caur kuru izplūst avota ūdens. Vecie gaujienieši stāsta, ka šis avots bijis senlatviešu svētavots, kura ūdens ir ļoti dzidrs, tīrs un garšīgs. Iedzerot no Lauvas mutes, varot redzēt laimi atnākam, vismaz uz to vienu dienu.

Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmā no Vecrīgas līdz Igaunijas robežai, kurš izstrādāts ar Eiropas Reģionālās attīstības fonda Centrālā Baltijas jūras reģiona pārrobežu sadarbības programmas 2014.–2020. gadam finansiālu atbalstu, izvietoti 45 slēpņi. Iesakām apvienot slēpņu meklēšanu ar pastaigu pa kādu no 15 ainaviskajiem Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmiem.

The 12th section of the Forest Trail ends in Gaujiena, or the centre of Europe, as the owner of the manor, Baron Julius von Wulff, believed. In the late 19th century, in the park of the manor, a lion's head with an open mouth was embedded in an artificial grotto made of dolomite stones, and now the spring water flows through its mouth. Old Gaujenieši (Gaujienas habitants) say that this spring was an ancient Latin holy spring whose water is very clear, clean and tasty. By drinking from the mouth of the Lion, one can see happiness coming, at least for that one day.

The cache is a part of the “The Forest Trail” cache series. The Forest Trail is a part of the European long-distance hiking route E11 in the Baltic States, which leads through the most beautiful forests and national parks of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The project, which has been developed with the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund Central Baltic Programme 2014-2020, includes 45 cache places in the northern part of the Forest Trail from Old Riga to the Estonian border. We recommend combining cache hunting with a walk along one of the 15 scenic sections of the northern part of the Forest Trail.
