Mežtakas 10. posms ved cauri Ziemeļgaujas mežainei no plostnieku galvaspilsētas Strenčiem līdz pat Spicu tiltam. Katru gadu, jau vairāk nekā 20 gadu garumā, maija trešajā nedēļā Strenčos notiek Gaujas plostnieku svētki, lai saglabātu Gaujas koku pludinātāju amata prasmi un popularizētu plosta siešanas tradīciju. Gaujas krastā netālu no Spicu tilta ir vieta, kur tiek sieti plosti šo svētku ekspedīcijai – divu dienu nobraucienam pa Gauju no Spicu tilta līdz Vecajam ozolam Strenčos.
Latvijas vēstures avotos plosti minēti jau 16. gadsimtā. Pa Daugavu uz Rīgu 17. un 18. gs. pludināja lielu daudzumu kokmateriālu, no kuriem vērtīgākie bija kuģu masti. Plostošana pa Gauju attīstījās pēc Gaujas–Daugavas kanāla atklāšanas 1903. gadā. Ūdensceļu nozīme koku pludināšanā mazinājās līdz ar dzelzceļu un autoceļu būvniecību.
Strenčos darbojas biedrība “Gaujas plostnieki”, kas pēta plostniecības attīstības vēsturi Latvijā un integrē plostniecību mūsdienu sabiedrības kultūrā kā Latvijas kultūras mantojuma daļu. Biedrība ir arī Starptautiskās koku pludinātāju asociācijas (International Timber Raftsmen Association) biedre.

Slēpnis ir daļa no slēpņu sērijas „MEŽTAKA”. Mežtaka ir Eiropas garās distances pārgājienu maršruta E11 daļa Baltijas valstīs, kas ved cauri Latvijas, Lietuvas un Igaunijas skaistākajiem mežiem un nacionālajiem parkiem. Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmā no Vecrīgas līdz Igaunijas robežai, kurš izstrādāts ar Eiropas Reģionālās attīstības fonda Centrālā Baltijas jūras reģiona pārrobežu sadarbības programmas 2014.–2020. gadam finansiālu atbalstu, izvietoti 45 slēpņi. Iesakām apvienot slēpņu meklēšanu ar pastaigu pa kādu no 15 ainaviskajiem Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmiem.

Description of the place:
The 10th section of the Forest Trail leads through the forest of Northern Gauja from the rafting capital Strenči to the Spicu Bridge. Every year, for more than 20 years, in the third week of May, the Gauja Rafting Festival is held in Strenči to preserve the craft skills of the River Gauja tree rafters and to promote the tradition of rafting. On the bank of the River Gauja near the Spicu Bridge is the place where the rafts for this festive expedition are being netted — a two-day ride along the River Gauja from the Spicu Bridge to the Old Oak in Strenči.
Latvian historical sources mention rafts as early as the 16th century. In the 17th and 18th centuries, large quantities of timber were floated down the Daugava to Riga, the most valuable of which were ship masts. Rafting on the Gauja developed after the opening of the Gauja-Daugava Canal in 1903. Waterways became less popular in floating trees when the construction of railways and roads started.
The association “Gaujas plostnieki” (“Raftsmen of River Gauja”) works in Strenči, researching the history of rafting in Latvia and integrating rafting into today’s culture as part of Latvia's cultural heritage. The association is also a member of the International Timber Raftsmen Association.

The cache is a part of the “The Forest Trail” cache series. The Forest Trail is a part of the European long-distance hiking route E11 in the Baltic States, which leads through the most beautiful forests and national parks of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The project, which has been developed with the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund Central Baltic Programme 2014-2020, includes 45 cache places in the northern part of the Forest Trail from Old Riga to the Estonian border. We recommend combining cache hunting with a walk along one of the 15 scenic sections of the northern part of the Forest Trail.
