Gauja ir viena no tām Latvijas upēm, kurās notiek aktīva meandrēšana. Tas nozīmē, ka upē aktīvi veidojas jauni līkumi un tiek pārrauti vecie. Ceļojot pa Gauju var labi redzēt, ka līkumu ārmalās notiek aktīva krasta erozija, kur krastu materiāls tiek ieskalots upē, bet līkumu iekšmalās ir materiāla uzkrājošā zona ar lēzenu krastu, kurā pamazām uzkrājas augstāk ieskalotais materiāls. Ar laiku līkumu cilpas var nonākt tikt tuvu, ka upe pārrauj meandru un sāk plūst pa taisnāku gultni. Vecā gultne tad paliek par vecupi, kuras savienojums ar upi pamazām aizsērē, bet pati vecupe pamazām aizaug. Slēpnis atrodas vietā, kur salīdzinoši nesen – 2003. gadā, meandrs tika pārauts. Līdz tam Gauja tecēja pa slēpnim blakus esošo vecupi un slēpņa vieta atradās Gaujas kreisajā krastā, bet pašlaik slēpņa vieta atrodas Gaujas labajā krastā.
Pie slēpņa visērtāk nokļūt braucot ar laivu pa Gauju. Ar kājām iespējams piekļūt ejot gar upes krastu no dienvidu puses, vai - nedaudz grūtāk - no austrumu puses. Augsta ūdens līmeņa gadījumā piekļuve ļoti aprūtināta un var būt nepieciešama peldēšanai vai palīglīdzeklis, tāpēc piekļuve vērtēta ar 4*.
NB! Vairāki slēpņotāji nav spējuši slēpnim kājām piekļūt augsta ūdens līmeņa dēļ. Ūdens līmeni pirms došanās pēc slēpņa var pārbaudīt https://videscentrs.lvgmc.lv/iebuvets/hidrologiska-operativa-informacija Valmieras hidrostacijā. Līdz šim (14.08.2023) augstākais Gaujas līmenis, kad atradējs nav sūdzējies ir +0.01m, zemākais Gaujas līmenis, kad slēpņotājs nav varējis piekļūt ir +0.31m. Ledus periodā ejot kājām slēpnim pa ledu var piekļūt arī pie augsta līmeņa.

[ENG] Cut-off meander
Gauja is one of those rivers in Latvia where active meandering is taking place. That means new bends are actively created by the river and the old ones get cut off. While traveling on the river one can see that outer banks of bends are actively eroded and material is washed into the river, while inner sides have gentle slopes, and the material is gradually accumulating. After some time two bends might come together and the stream might cut whole bend off. In that case the old riverbed turns into oxbow lake, whose connection to the river is gradually plugged with deposits and later the lake overgrows with vegetation. The cache is located in a meander that not so long ago – in 2003 - got cut off by the river. Till that time river Gauja was flowing using the riverbed near the cache and the cache location was on the left bank of the river, but now the cache location is on the right bank of the river.
The most convenient way to get to the cache is using a boat from river Gauja. If coming by foot the best access is from the south side by the bank, or – harder way – from the east side. In case of high watter level swimming or using of a floating device might be needed, so terrain in rated 4*.
NB! Several geocaches so far were unable to reach the cache by foot duet to high water level. The lowest level when cacher could not access the cache on foot due to high level of water is +0.31m. During ice period one can access the cache on foot using ice also on high water level.
