Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) is an environmental initiative supported by the geocaching community. Since 2002, CITO has helped preserve the natural beauty of cache-friendly spaces. In that time, more than 363,000 people have volunteered at 18,000 CITO events.
Twice per year, geocachers can earn virtual souvenirs by attending events during the CITO seasons. Season 2 officially kicked off on the 1st of September so here is your chance to do something good for the environment and also earn a souvenir in case you haven't done so already.
The old rest area along the Bruce Highway offers some good space for geocaches, such as a TB hotel and climbing cache, readily available for traveling cachers. Unfortunately, this area is also frequently used as illegal rubbish dumping area. During the planned event we therefore will try to clean up this eyesore, making Townsville's gateway to the south a little nicer.Â
The event will be hosted in conjunction with all current COVID-19 regulations and free disposal of collected trash has been granted by the Townsville city council.
