Oxford War memorial was erected by Oxford City council in 1921. The land it stands on is in front of St. Giles Church and was donated by St. Johns College.
It was originally erected to remember the people of Oxford City who fought and died in the first world war. There are no individual names on the memorial. Later inscriptions were added to remember those who died in the second world war.
The Memorial was designed by Thomas Rayson and is a free standing stone memorial with a Maltese cross. The carvings were done by Ernest Field of Stockmore st. and include the coats of arms of both City and University as well as symbols representing the Armed Services.
The headline co ordinates will take you to a brass plate situated on a low wall at the back of the memorial.
