GAGB 2021: Annual Pond Restoration at Hucclecote Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

Monski: Thank you to everyone's brilliant work, we certainly managed to make a dent.

With it having been left for 2 years there is still plenty of work to be done and so a new CITO has just been published for Saturday 16th to let us finished what we've started.

I'm now archiving this one so the new event doesn't get lost on the map. I will grab an update photo when I'm next there though and post it up on here as a note.

GAGB 2021 CITO Weekend

This is just one of the many events to be be held across the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands as part of the GAGB CITO Week.

Pond restoration at Hucclecote Meadows 12:00 - 15:00

Sunday 19th September

CITO 2021, Season 2
Attend a CITO from 1st September 1 through to 30 November 2021 to grab a season 2 souvenir.

Parking: There is some on street parking opposite the reserve on Laxton Road (or in many of the other side streets nearby).

Where: We will meet by the pond, or maybe even in it! (published co-ordinates).

What: Continuing what we started the previous years (this will be our 4th year), we will be working to dig out reed and vegetation from the central area of the pond.

There are also jobs around the outside of the pond if you would prefer to stay a bit dryer and cleaner. Such as clearing away scrub from around the waters edge and the fence.

How: Felicity the Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance and any necessary tools. If you are going in the pond, wellies or waders are essential as well as ‘old’ clothes which you don’t mind getting stinky and muddy!

Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction.

Additional COVID measures: We are encouraging individuals to work in their own groups and social distance where possible from any other groups. We ask you to bring your own gloves and where appropriate tools, so if you have shears, secateurs and a spade please do bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have them as the ranger will have a supply, we just ask that you don't share tools outside of your groups.

Unfortunately we also won't be supplying our normal drinks and biscuits so please do bring along your own refreshments. We will still have a break mid-way where we can take a rest and catch up, but please do continue to maintain distance between individuals where appropriate.

The GAGB

The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB). The Association was established in 2003 to provide a national geocaching organisation and serve as a UK point of contact for geocachers, landowners, the media and others with an interest in geocaching.

As part of its 10th anniversary, it was decided to hold a CITO weekend in September which has now became an annual event. This later evolved into a full CITO Week, with the first one being held in September 2019. It would be great to see more of these icons pop up across the country and for other members to hold their own events where it is not feasible to attend one that a committee member has organised.

There is a lot more information about what we do, including the landowner database, comprehensive event listings and Seeker e-magazine at www.gagb.org.uk. If you would like to get involved follow the link and find our contact details.

The GAGB are encouraging everyone to organise CITO events this weekend, in part to pay-back for what we hope will have been a great summer of caching, and also to make things more pleasant for future cachers. If this CITO is the nearest one to you, please come along!

More information could well be announced, so either keep watch on the listing or log your 'Will Attend' to make sure you receive the announcement logs.
