The World War Two Memorial Walk can be found in a quiet area of Maldon Promenade Park close to a conservation area.
In November 1987, 86 trees were planted here to commemorate local people who died in the Second World War, with a service of dedication conducted by Maldon Council of Churches. Additional trees were planted between 1988 and 1992 to complete the horseshoe avenue.
The Memorial Avenue provides a link between the Delph Ditch Conservation Area and the River Blackwater. It offers a pleasant and shady area in which to walk and enjoy the surroundings.
A Sign by the north west entrance to the avenue lists 87 names, the original 86 and one later addition.
At the bottom of the sign are the words:
"They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them."
A rededication service in 2002 was marked by the placing of a large stone with plaque just in front of the main sign.
