The parallel universe or parallel reality (alternative universe, parallel world) is a hypothetical autonomous reality that coexists with the existing one. The parallel universe is a recognizable concept in fiction, especially in literary works in the science fiction genre.
The idea of "other worlds" has existed since ancient times, it is manifested in myths, legends and religion. In essence, Heaven, Hell, Olympus, and Valhalla are "alternative realities" that are different from the known material world. This concept can also be found in ancient Hindu mythology as well as in Persian literature.
The quantum theory of parallel worlds was put forward by the American physicist Hugh Everett the third in the 20th century, defining parallel universes as "universes separated from each other by a single (quantum) event."
