I strongly encourage anyone wanting to add this cache to their achievements list do so as soon as possible in 2023. The property will change hands soon and the new owner is not likely to approve of the continued existence of this cache. I'll try to relocate it nearby but I can't guarantee it will happen. Caveat lector!
From the road intersection at N 44° 45.369', W 91° 32.334', proceed to N 44° 45.368', W 91°32.637'. Drive through the field access and park off-road - but check the ground first if it has rained recently. Don't block the access; tractors are bigger than cars. We are the property owners and geocache seekers have permission to enter the property to seek the cache. Stick to the waypoints in order and you will be on our property. Do not let anyone threaten you with trespassing.
Keep left at the edge of the field and head for the bottom of the hill at N 44° 45.286', W 91°32.584
Follow the overgrown road up the hill to N 44° 45.159', W 91°32.563. At this T-junction, follow the trail in the direction of the cache. Leave the trail when necessary and bushwhack to the cache.
The cache will be found at N 44° 45.080', W 91° 32.682', where one of the last of the ancient inhabitants watches over the children of the new.
Some items of note:
- The overgrown road was cleared in 2021 ... mostly.
- Buckthorn, locust and brush are killed July through October with strong herbicide. These areas have standing dead trees with paint markers. Exercise caution and stay out of the brush until past the T-junction.
- Positions taken with Garmin GPS V using DGPS and averaged/500.
- Bring insect repellent in season. Permethrin / resmethrin tick spray is useful.
- Wear long clothing.
- A brush hook or machete might be useful if you get wildly off course.
- The fastest way out is the waypoints in reverse order.
- Feel free to help yourself to the cache trinkets, and take a souvenir card.
Warning
Do not seek this cache during deer or turkey hunting seasons. We do hunt the property ourselves, and the "no trespassing" signs are sometimes ignored by others.
