Geocache Description:

Brief History of St Peter's Church, Holymoorside

Construction commenced on St Peter's Church in June 1841 as Holymoorside began to develop as a village. For several centuries prior to this, occupants of the various farmhouses in the hamlets of Loads, Pocknedge and Doghole would attend St Peter and St Paul's Church in Old Brampton, approximately two miles north of here. The church opened four months later and was also used as a day school and Sunday School. A much later addition was the graveyard, made possible by community donations, and consecrated in May 1914. In the past couple of years, in response to the graveyard approaching capacity, further donations have enabled a memorial wall to be developed.

Overview of Cache

This multi cache will take you on a short walk into the graveyard, which is a peaceful environment and easy to miss when passing the church on the road. Please be considerate as many loved ones are at rest here. All the information can be gathered from the path and should only take a few minutes to gather. It is then a short walk to the final co-ordinates, making this cache ideal for those on a tighter schedule. Parking is available on the opposite side of the road towards the pub. On days when services or events are taking place, you may need to park on Holymoor Road opposite the Village Hall.

Please do not collect the information during church services, memorials or at night.

The cache is not on church property or at the listed co-ordinates, instead you will need to calculate the final co-ordinates using information from the marked waypoints and the instructions below.

Bench
As you enter the graveyard from the public footpath, you will notice a bench on your right. This bench is dedicated to John Bryan Thomas, 19AB - 1988. Take note of digits A and B.

Grave 2

She died on F April 2000. Take note of the digit F.

The cache is a micro container, containing a log book only. A pen or other implement will be required to sign the logbook.
It can be located at the following co-ordinates:

N053 13.AF(B-C)
W001 29.DE(D+A)

Please DO NOT search for the final cache or the information at night as this could cause concern to the local community

Stealth may be required when searching, take care not to draw attention to the cache's location and please don't post anything in your logs that may give the location away to others, so everyone can enjoy working out the location for themselves.
