"The Mary Nohl site has been listed as one of the ten most endangered properties in Wisconsin (2005) by the Wisconsin Preservation Trust. The site has also been recognized on the Wisconsin Registry of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places (2005). It has also been nominated as a Milwaukee County Landmark. The site is not open to the public at this time." (2006 - named a Milwaukee County Landmark) ~The Kohler Foundation Myth One of the myth's surrounding this place is that the woman who lived here was on shore watching her husband and son out in the lake in a row boat. A wave capsized the boat and the two of them drowned. She apparently was unable to save them, and out of remorse for this, created all the artwork located on and around the house in memory of them. Fact The truth however is that the woman who lived in this house was named Mary Nohl (1914-2001). She had never married and had no children. She was an accomplished artist who received training at the Art Institute of Chicago and graduated in 1938. She chose to display her art work on her property in this manner. She died recently and left the property to The Kohler foundation which is now restoring it. The property and all it's interesting artwork are definitely worth visiting, as with the view of the lake offered nearby.
