Geocache Description:

18 September 2021, 10:00 - 12:00

In partnership with the Cougar Canyon Streamkeepers we will be working to restore the trail by laying down bark mulch.

Tasks will involve transporting the mulch to the worksite using wheelbarrows, clearing back the undergrowth and spreading the mulch into place.  A secondary task will be building a corduroy road (log path) by cutting deadfall into smaller sections and placing it perpendicular to the direction of the trail.

In addition to this, there are many tires that have been dumped in the canyon.  Our local Venture Scout Group is working on clearing them out in sections.  I've asked them to leave any tires coming out to Westview at our farthest worksite point, and we'll 'wheel' them out on their behalf.

Be aware that the terrain may have rocks/roots and sections are narrow with short steep drop offs on one side to the creek.

Long pants are highly recommended as is sturdy footwear (boots, hikers).  The area will have some blackberry and deadfall/windfall to contend with.  Bug spray won't go amiss either!

Important:  The Streamkeepers do not have a large inventory of wheelbarrows.  To make this successful we'll need folks to bring one if they can..  Please note in your 'Will Attend' if you have one you are able to bring.

To help reach areas wheelbarrows can't reach, we are hoping to have several 5 gallon pails we can use.  However another option is to use a large backpack.  Bring one fit for purpose if you have one available.  The mulch will be dry and the backpack is easily shaken out afterwards.

Also bring gloves and water!

There is plenty of good street parking at the coordinates and along Westview Drive.  The trail head is on the East side of the road, North side of the Creek.  If you arrive a little late, just walk down the trail and you'll locate us.

City of Delta Parks has requested that all Volunteers on this site complete a waiver on arrival.

The waiver covers an assumption of risk and release of liability.  Please do not attend if you are unwilling to sign the waiver.

This cache will qualify you for an official Souvenir for CITO week..
