Lest We Forget.
The war memorial in Astwood Bank comprises a Latin cross on a square plinth, with a two stepped base. The names of the fallen from WW1 are inscribed around the square plinth, the names for WW2 are on a sloped stone added to the front.
To find the cache:
A: I've always known my name is old fashioned (I can thank my father for it), how many men share a first name with me? (For those who don't know me, my first name is Ralph).
B: How many men have surnames that are animals? (Some are singular, some are plural).
C: Find Howard, how many letters in his surname? (Yes, there are 2, both have the same number of letters in their surnames).
D: How many people are named on the WW2 section?
E: Look for Mr Robinson, how many letters are there in his middle name?
F: Look for Alfred Watkins, there are 2 letters before his name, take the second one of these letters, what position in the alphabet is this letter? (if A = 1 and Z = 26).
G: How many people are named Horace?
As a checker, these 7 numbers should now add up to 32.
The Cache:
N52° (E-C) (A+B) . (F-A) (B+C-A) (E-A)
W001° (D-G) (A+C) . (C-G) (D-B) (C-F)
There is a short walk to the cache (yes, it's not that far at all, but there was nowhere suitable immediately next to the memorial, and I wanted to bring you to the memorial, not just see it from a distance). You'll need your own writing implement.
