Gwersyllt War Memorial (Cenotaph) stands in it's own walled gardens on the corner of Wheatsheaf Lane with its junction with Old Mold Road, Gwersyllt. The statue on the memorial was sculpted by Joseph Hermon Cawthra, one of the finest sculptors of his time, he was responsible for the sculptural work of many War Memorials, this one is Grade II listed with CADW. The Memorial was unveiled in 1923 by Major-General Sir Thomas O. Marden and dedicated by the Archdeacon of Wrexham. Remembered are the names of 86 and 1 women who died in the First World War and names 40 who died in the Second World War. Parking is available roadside close by at a pull in in Old Mold Road or at times in Wheatsheaf Lane itself on the memorial side of the road, obviously where safe to do so. Being at a road junction please be aware of the traffic and keep yourself, geokids and geohounds safe at all times. Can be done as a drive by but make sure you don't interfere with other road users. Please be stealthy especially at daytime as the roads and paths can be quite busy.
