St Mary, Stow

 

ST MARY, STOW

 

St Mary, Stow is a Grade I listed building, achieving the status on 16 December 1964.

The building was constructed and added to in 1034-49, 1090, 1150, 1170, C13th, early C15th with the chancel restored 1850-2. The remainder restored 1864-7, both times by J. L. Pearson. A final restoration took place in 1983.

The building is made up of a nave, north-west vestry, north stair turret, north and south transepts, crossing tower and a rectangular chancel.

St Mary is one of the major examples of Anglo Saxon architecture in the country.

It is also usually open and has a pop up Post Office at least once a week.
