Geocache Description:

12 September 2021, 13:00 - 15:00

Why: The North Dakota Park & Recreation Department (NDPRD) has issued a statewide “12 months – 12 Hikes” challenge. To participate, just pick and hike any one of the 20 qualifying trails. The trails are located in 12 participating state parks and you have a two-week period each month to complete a hike. You can complete your hikes all in one park or explore any of 12 locations across the state. If you miss a hike don’t worry there are bonus hikes to help you get in 12 hikes in 12 months, check the NDPR website. The North Dakota Geocaching Association (NDGCA) would like to help everyone complete the hiking challenge. To do this, we will be hosting an event in a different state park each month, so we can get together with other geocachers. Everyone is welcome, even if you have never found a geocache. What: September's theme is “Fall Colors Hike” We have more in store for you than just hiking/geocaching. There is an optional visit to the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center. See the posted parking coords for this event. Come inside and learn about the Lewis & Clark Expedition of 1803/1806. Cost is $8 per adult and $5 per student. This ticket will also get you a guided tour of nearby Fort Mandan, adjacent to the event. The optional tour will begin at noon and last approximately 45 minutes. Rest rooms are available in the Center. We will then depart for the short three mile drive to Fort Mandan and the start of the hike. After the hike, you are invited to participate in a guided tour of Fort Mandan (ticket required). The same ticket will get you into both the Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan. Remember: Different from other events in this series a daily pass ($7) or annual ND state park pass ($35) are not required to enter. Snacks/water and door prizes will be available after the event. We will follow current state Covid-19 mandates. Masks are encouraged if a distance of 6-feet cannot be maintained. We hope to see you there!
