About Little Steeping Station
Little Steeping station was an intermediate station on the East Lincolnshire Railway between Firsby and Eastville opening with the line in 1848. Trains on the New Line between Woodhall Junction and Firsby also called at Little Steeping.
The station had two narrow platforms on the south side of the level crossing with the main station building incorporating the booking office and stationmaster's house on the down side of the line adjacent to the level crossing. A signalbox for controlling the crossing and access to the small good yard was sited opposite the station building on the up side of the line.
The small goods yard which included a loading dock for livestock was on the down side with a single siding running behind the down platform. The station closed to passengers on 11th September 1961 but remained open for goods traffic until 15th June 1964 when the goods service was withdrawn from some intermediate stations on the ELR. The signalbox closed on 11th March 1989 and was subsequently demolished.
The main station building which incorporates the stationmaster's house survives in private occupation. The platforms have been demolished.
