The church at Hail Weston is an unusual one. When visiting, please make sure that you explore around the back by the tower to see the unusual supporting beams. This timber-framed tower is (according to Historic England) the only such one in Cambridgeshire.
Dedicated to St. Nicholas, the church is Grade II listed. First built in the 13th century, it was completely restored in 1884. There is a WW1 memorial on the outside of the east wall, near the road.
At present (10th July 2023) the churchyard is inaccessible due to building works, so the bench mentioned below is not accessible. We are thus providing two ways of obtaining the A, B, C and D required to reveal the co-ordinates of the cache (which can be accessed from outside the churchyard).
EITHER:
To find the cache, go to the bench at the cache's headline coordinates. On the bench is a plaque. The year that the bench was presented is ABCD.
OR:
To find the cache, locate the gate to the churchyard with letters at its corners. Converting letters of the alphabet to numbers (A=1, B=2, ..., Z=26), calculate the following.
A = 2nd letter at top left
B = 1st letter at top right + 1st letter at top left + 2nd letter at top left
C = 1st letter at bottom left + 2nd letter at bottom left - 1st letter at top left
D = 2nd letter at top right * 2nd letter at top right
The cache is at N52 14.(B-3)(C-A-A-A-A)(D-2) W000 17.(D-A-A-A)(B-2)(C-2) and can be accessed from outside the churchyard.
