This memorial is dedicated to the 4 men of the Royal Canadian Air Force who died on 5 January 1945, when their Vickers Wellington LP841 of No. 82 Operational Training Unit crashed, shortly after take off from nearby RAF Ossington, striking an electrical pole, bursting in to flames and crashing near to this spot. During the crash, the rear tail broke away, allowing Rear Gunner Sgt Eden to escape. He was amazingly uninjured and was led to safety by locals. Another memorial to this crash stands inside Laxton church.
