Geocache Description:

27 April 2021, 16:45 - 17:45

On April 27, 2011, an EF 4 Tornado ripped throught the heart of the City of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  I choose the Start time of 4:45 for this CITO because the deadly Tornado first appeared on Weather Radar just southwest of Tuscaloosa at 4:50 P.M.  The Tornado track got as wide as 1.5 miles wide and when it was not finiished as a tornado, but had at least exited the City of Tuscaloosa, there would be 44 persons dead and hundreds of persons injured and billions of dollars of preperty damaged.  The scares of that Tornado can be seen all around the City still today.  Some local  geocachers came and join in right away in search and rescue efforts.  CanUCacheThis came and help ChinaTreker get out of her damaged house.  KittyKat came and helped with First Aid on victims in Cedar Crest.  A U.S Marine and I dug a family out of a collalsped house in Alberta City.  Three weeks after the storm, we had a CITO at ChinaTrekers home to help clean her neighborhood and nearby cemetery of tornado debris.

Alberta City Is mostly cleaned up now, but the scars are still there for those who lived through the strom.  That is why the D/T rating is what it is.  A Memorial to that day.  The Tuscaloosa Tornado of  April 27, 2011.
