We tried to go Wintergardening last year, but, well... y'know. Wintergarden park lost a lot of volunteer hours last spring due to the stay-at-home period, BGSU students finishing their semesters remotely, and youth groups not meeting in person. This spring they've been hit again with BGSU cancelling many extracurricular outings. But I think we can meet safely outdoors, keep our distance from people we don't normally interact with, and still have a good time.
If you're a long-time cacher, you might have noticed how much more open the understory is in the park these days. BG Parks have been making an effort to clear invasive species from this park, and restore it to a native ecosystem. We're going to help them out by pulling a seasonal nuisance, garlic mustard. You'll need long pants and closed-toe shoes. You may also want to wear a long sleeve shirt and gloves (poison ivy is a native species). This CITO option is accessible to all ages of cachers, and also our four-legged friends.
The plan is to meet near the parking lot. Have a mask or gaiter handy for when we first gather, and in situations where we can't maintain distance from other park users or each other. We'll head out with park staff to scout, seek, and destroy (don't get excited - it pulls pretty easily) the garlic mustard. We'll probably be off trail part of the time; I haven't heard about ticks being particularly bad in this park yet, but they're showing up in other parts of Ohio.
As much as I'd like to go out to pizza or something afterward, we should probably postpone that until restaurants can seat larger groups again.
Post a "will attend" so you'll get a notification if we have to modify our plans due to weather.
