We had a cleanup all ready to go last year, and COVID said no. This is a cemetery surrounded by a cemetery.... We found this not too long ago. The bright and obvious Glenford cemetery almost swallows it up. It needs some help! Follow the little trail from the unreadable rusted sign (a new one has been ordered) and help us to clean up. We'll make a difference in this interesting place with such a contrast to the larger cemetery. Please bring gloves, garden tools such as rakes, nippers, and shovels if you have them. Be careful of poison Ivy, uneven ground, sharp metal, and ticks! Also, bring a mask which will be needed when you are within 6' of others. Do not attend if you are ill... maintain social distancing at all times.

Providence Water Supply's Environmental Resource Manager has granted us permission to do this and there will be waivers to sign. Please bring your own pen for this (but what cacher doesn't have a pen?). We also have permission from the town's volunteers for the state historical cemetery commission and from the director of public works.
https://covid.ri.gov for RI guidelines about COVID safety - social distancing, masks, and contact tracing are stil required, even if you're vaccinated. I will be photographing the waivers for contact tracing and will delete these after 2 weeks.
Thank you to Providence Water for permission to enter and work!
SCITUATE HISTORIC CEMETERY CLEANUP
We are hosting an organized cleanup on Saturday, May 1, 9 am to 12 noon, of the Phillips-Smith Historic Cemetery, SC093
Heavy rain or thunderstorms will move the event to Sunday May 2 at 9am
Enter Glenford cemetery from William F. Angell road and park on one of the dirt roads (not on grass). Be careful of grass and graves and also not to block the road for others... this is a fairly busy cemetery. Then go to the coordinates where you will find a rusted cemetery sign and one of ours. There is a little path to the cemetery.
We will be clearing minor brush, vines, and leaves, and then moving to more detailed cleanup and tidying (possibly resetting) the stones if time allows. There are 42 burials here.
Helpful items to bring:
Mask Alcohol gel Drinking water Snacks Gloves Knee pads Sunscreen/hat
Hand tools like clippers, shovels, rakes, and saws – no power tools, please
Safety is most important, both for the volunteers and of the cemetery and stones. Watch out for possible thorns, poison plants, and ticks.
