On April 25, 2001 I found my first cache on the summit of Little Si: GC66F "...and a whimper". I'd seen a sidebar note in Climbing magazine about Geocaching & Letterboxing. The nearest Letterbox was on Rattlesnake Ridge, and since I was using the hike on Little Si for training at the time & I had a GPSr, I chose to try caching. I'm not sure why/how I found the cache since the unit was set to NAD27, which set the co-ords almost 400 feet off, but I did. I also returned to the wrong spot, following the GPSr. That week I found out the difference between NAD27 and WGS84 and went back to move the cache to it's right place.
So this is a celebration of 20 years of my caching. We'll meet at (or near) the co-ords in Gene Coulon Park. I'll have a 'pop-up' shelter (or two, if you have one and the weather looks 'interesting' bring it). Be ready to share your story of starting/first cache.
