This is a fine example of a mid 19th century church by a good provincial architect. It was built in 1859, with the steeple added in 1872, by Shrewsbury architect Samuel Pountney Smith. The original plan was for the church and the neighbouring vicarage to be part of a model village alongside the Shrewsbury-Baschurch road at this point, but no more was built. Currently, the Parish of Leaton has a population in the region of 2000 and the nearby village of Bomere Heath is the main centre of population.
Construction is of tooled yellow/grey Grinshill sandstone ashlar with smooth ashlar dressings and a plain tile roof. The whole is built in Gothic style, with Lancet windows, flying buttresses and many other architectural details of the style. The interior is similarly ornate and a look inside is recommended.
The Church Spire is a Trigpoint.
