Geocache Description:

Liege manor (Leegen)

The manor was built in the second half of the 18th century, until 1887 it belonged to the family of Baron Kleist. The German-Baltic architect         H. Pīrangs once criticized the manor house, calling the building “a meaningless building” and criticized the placement of the coat of arms on both sides of the entrance door, which is allegedly against the laws of heraldry. He suggests that this is an awkward transformation of an older building. (D. Brugis “Castles of Historicism in Latvia”)

The manor suffered in World War I.

After the land reform in 1924, a dairy was established in the manor complex. On July 2, 1938, the “Latest News” writes: “A fire broke out in the castle of the manor on Wednesday. The roof and the second floor of the tall building were destroyed by fire. The ground floor has also suffered badly. In 1939, the manor house was rebuilt for the needs of the dairy, but then it existed in this building until the 1990s.

The servant's house and the manor's orchard were awarded to E. Bauze for merits in the liberation struggles, there is a chapel in the territory of the manor.

The building is currently unmanaged and is for sale, the building is in poor condition and although the door is open, we do not recommend going inside.
