This is all that remains of the branch line to Snibston Colliery (now a country park) that once joined the Leicester to Swannington line. This is know locally as Oliver's Crossing.
Oliver Robinson was a gate minder in the 1881. He was aged 62. He had worked in the pit's and in the 1870's had been in an accident and was given the duty of gate minder as compensation. He died aged 71 and was buried in Hugglescote cemetry.The building here is known as Oliver's hut.
