On February 21, 2011, Team Palazzo was formed. It started off as a family affair, with all five of us venturing out to grab this thing called a "geocache". My wife had heard about it from a co-worker so off we went into the jungle of Okinawa, Japan. We picked a bad one for our first geocache. It was one of those where elevation plays a role and we were at the base of this 50 foot wall and the geocache was at the top of the wall (it was an ancient castle). We eventually found it, but I was like forget this geocaching thing. And it remained that way for 300 days until we deceided to grab some geocaches very close to our house. These were MUCH easier and I was hooked! Over 7,800 finds later, I am still going strong. Unfortunately, I am a team of one nowadays but that is a whole other story (which some of you have heard).
Thanks to COVID and no events being held in VA, I am actually celebrating my 10 year + 1 month anniversary of being a geocacher. I will hold this quick gathering where I hold my normal monthly event (when I was able to hold them monthly). We will meet at the Panera at 4402 Fortuna Center Plaza in Dumfries, VA from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM. We will meet in the outside dining area and please wear your mask. Bring trackables if you like but please keep on eye on them so they do not get lost. Look forward to seeing everybody there!
