Important Information About This Event
This event is located at the Tianchi Lodge, which is along the trail that leads to the Qilai South Peak (and other peaks too of course) here in Taiwan. Tianchi Lodge is located at an elevation of 2,860 meters above sea level.The entrance to the hike (referenced in Waypoint 1) to Tiachi Lodge is 13 kilometers one-way. The entrance to the trail (Waypoint 1) is at an elevation of around 2,000 meters, and over the course of 13 kiometers, you will rise around 800 meters in elevation before getting to the CITO Event, so please be aware of the risks of altitude sickness and take the necessary precautions before beginning this hike.
The overall hike is not overly demanding and can be done in a day (if of course starting early) but you will have to apply for permission to enter this area. You can apply for permits by visiting the official website here and following the instructions.
Trails in Taiwan have adopted a campaign of Leave No Trace, which is the same philosophy as what is listed on the Geocacher's Creed under the section entitled Minimize My and Others' Impact on the Environment.
With that said, this event is to not only help maintain the trail by beautifying it through our cleanup efforts, but also provide an example to others so that they may follow in our footsteps and at the same time understand the volunteer efforts of Geocachers.
As this event is high in the mountain, and we Geocachers as well as Taiwan have adopted the Leave No Trace campaign, all trash that we pick up at this CITO Event and along the trail must be taken down the mountain with us. This means that I will need your help in transporting the trash down the mountain to dispose of properly at designated dump areas back near Waypoint 1. Transporting the trash can be done by simply tying the reusable plastic bags to your backpack and carrying them that way. I will provide small reusable plastic bags but I also encourage you to bring your own too. Also it's a good idea to wear gloves, and remember to wear warm clothing since it can get quite cool (under 10° C). Food can be provided at Tianchi Cabin but must be ordered at least one-week prior to your arrival so please make sure to look at the official website for more information or let me know and I can assist in ordering meals. I will provide some snacks and water but it is also your responsibility to come prepared as well by bringing your own snacks and water. I am so looking forward to seeing you all there!
