Quarterly Clean-Up: Q1 The Cranes Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

Captain Terror: Three weeks on, it's time to say goodbye to this event, and look forwards to Q2.

About 60 people, about 600 metres of the creek and about 600 kilograms of rubbish cleaned here. That's a thank-you to everyone who came along to donate some time and energy to a cleaner world!

Geocache Description:

21 March 2021, 09:00 - 11:00

In June 2020, this green link track along Slacks Creek was opened. It includes a wide walkway, open spaces, revegetated creek banks, a massive bridge, benches, and some brilliant installation art. Unfortunately, the creek and surrounds are full of rubbish from surrounding human activity.

The rubbish and pollutants in Slacks Creek will flow into the Logan River and onwards in Moreton Bay unchecked and unrestricted to join the 8 million tonnes of plastic that enters our oceans every year. Here's a chance to remove the rubbish before that occurs.

You'll be having a direct and positive impact on the local, regional and global environment at this event. Plus, the opportunity to hang out with other cool geocachers, and find the local geocaches.

What's the Plan?
This is a CITO Event, and will center around collecting rubbish from in and around Moss Park. We'll have a staging area set up at GZ with the equipment you'll need and where you'll return rubbish to.

There are a few distinct sections of the park for groups to handle, all the way from Compton Road to Moss Street. Check out the map for the zones we'll be able to realistically access and entirely clean. For the more adventurous, the creek itself needs large items carefully removed on foot. Feel free to make this event as T1, or as T3 as you like!

Meet at GZ at 09:00 where you can be assigned a section to clean and either when you've filled your bags, or 10:30 arrives, we'll reconvene at GZ for the group photo and to hand out prizes and giveaways.

What to Bring
Please wear appropriate clothing (I would recommend long pants). BYO sunscreen, bug spray, gloves and water. Bags will be provided.

We want this to be a fun, social and engaging event while still being COVID-Safe.

There will be a contact-tracing register as per council permissions. I kindly ask that you agree to the following expectations:
• Stay at home if you are at all unwell,
• Keep a social distance from those not from your household, and
• Maintain good hand hygiene.

You may have noticed I mentioned that there will be prizes and giveaways. There are a few items in the park that, upon their return will attract a prize. Plus, a few other fun activities to share the love. I have over $200 worth of gifts to give out (geocaches, trackables and coffee vouchers). But, the deal is, we're going to try to fill the 1m3 bulk bag at GZ!

To make this event both possible and as brilliant as it will be, let's thank the sponsors:
Logan City Council who provided permission and rubbish pick-up,
Ocean Crusaders Waterway Cleaning who provided all equipment,
Extraction Artisan Coffee who are donating vouchers,
All Things Geo who donated a bunch of prizes and giveaways.
