Warlingham Green War Memorial - Shielding The Defenceless
The Memorial
The iconic feature of Warlingham Green is the War Memorial. It takes the form of a three-stepped base surmounted by a square plinth and a figure of a serviceman protecting a mother and child who shelter beneath him. The memorial was originally unveiled by Major General Sir Gerald Elliston, K.C.M.G., C.B., 4 December 1921 and rededicated in 1946. Although the memorial bears inscriptions for World War 2 there are 60 names listed for World War 1 only. The memorial was repaired in 2019.
