Requirements to complete Traffic Jam

Hardest
Tasks

• Locate this webcam at a website to obtain the LARGE 704 x 480 pixels image and learn how to save images from it. Do NOT use the smaller 352 x 240 pixels image. (This webcam exists at multiple sites. Not all sites have the large image available.)

ONLY THE LARGE IMAGE IS ACCEPTED!

• Is the web cam actually working??? BE SURE the webcam is operational BEFORE proceeding to the location! To comply with the geocaching.com guidelines, exceptions will no longer be allowed when the webcam is not working!
• Learn when the sun is facing only you, and NOT the camera.
• Plan a way to save your photo once you are at the location. Plan ahead.

Easiest
Tasks

• Park in a safe and legal location once you are near the coordinates.
• Due to occasional changes in the webcam location, please read the note on the back of the "ADOPT A HIGHWAY LITTER CONTROL" sign for additional instructions. Consider this a multi-stage, mystery, webcam cache!
• Position yourself OFF of the road, next to the obvious sign as shown in the webcam image.
(Note that the sample pictures above, and older logs show a "Fasten Seat Belt" sign and an "Airport" sign which are no longer at the location.)

*1 - DO NOT ENTER THE ROAD in your picture! :(

• Save your photo from the webcam when the sun is NOT at your back.
• Submit your image to this site along with your log, WITHOUT any text that may give away the cam's location!
• Do not include any spoilers in your log, even if encrypted.

Suggestions, Details and Cautions!

• There is no need to ever be in the road! Although the location is next to a traffic safety zone, please stay off of the road or your log will be deleted according to the geocaching.com, Webcam Cache Logging Guidelines which state,

"Logging a webcam cache find requires compliance with the requirements stated by the owner, including providing the required photo as the owner has requested or following the example provided on the cache page."

Additionally, according to the Virtual Cache and Webcam Cache Maintenance Guidelines, which say in part,

"The owner ... will agree to delete any "find" logs that appear to be ... not within the stated requirements."

• This cache is not specifically recommended for children and pets, so be extra careful with them at this cache.
• Wear bright colors so that you are more visible in the webcam.
• If you attempt this cache at night, you must provide your own very bright light to illuminate yourself for the camera! You must be clearly visible as mentioned next.
• There are multiple sites to access this webcam. You must find the correct site with the required LARGE image to complete this cache! The LARGE image will be 704 x 480 pixels, NOT the smaller 352 x 240 pixels image. This requirement helps satisfy Geocaching.com's guidelines for webcams which states that, "The camera must provide a photo detailed enough to identify the cacher."
• When at the CORRECT website, RIGHT click on the LARGE image to SAVE it to your computer. Do NOT use a window capture or screenshot method, which may reveal the physical location of the cam with any text included in the webcam's browser window.
• With basic image editing software you can zoom in and crop yourself from the LARGE image before submitting it to this site. While this is not required, it will help you be more identifiable in the photo since Geocaching.com automatically re-sizes images to be smaller when they are uploaded.

"Traffic Jam" History

The "Traffic Jam" webcam cache was originally created after discovering the webcam in September 2002. It was Northwest Ohio's first and only webcam at the time. Around November 2003, the webcam camera was temporarily removed, and the cache was disabled. In February of 2005, the webcam camera was returned to service at a new location across the street from the original. The original cache coordinates were for the location of the actual webcam camera. For safety reasons, the current coordinates are for the location where you must pose for your picture, rather than the location of the camera. When this cache was reactivated, this site was also revised to clarify the cache requirements and safety concerns. An additional requirement was added that images must only be from the LARGE image source. The overall difficulty rating was changed from 2.5 to 3 due to this new requirement, and then changed again down to 2 since the webcam is now easier to find than it was originally. In May 2009 the road sign to pose at was changed, and a picture of the new road sign was added here.

*2 - Since Geocaching.com has discontinued new webcam caches and has grandfathered existing webcam caches, it is therefore likely that "Traffic Jam" will remain Northwest Ohio's First and Metro Toledo's FIRST, ONLY and LAST webcam cache. On 07/10/2005, Northwest Ohio acquired it's SECOND and LAST webcam called "Erie MetroPark WebCam" (GCPDM5).
