Geocache Description:

25 April 2021, 09:30 - 11:30

Celebrate Earth Day 2021 by joining the Tri-State Geocachers in helping with some trail work and general clean-up from the Winter season at the Brandwein Nature Learning Preserve.

Join us on Sunday, April 25 at 9:30am in working at the preserve along its trail system.

Our CITO tasks will consist primarily of:

  • trail maintenance in spreading gravel at selected points along the trail system, making repairs where necessary;
  • gathering data related to the ash trees damaged by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer and compiling the data to be used by projects at the Preserve;
  • cleaning up in the pavilion and along the roadsides near the Preserve;
  • helping setting up a new weather station and OwlCam and linking them to the new router.

We'll split into separate crews in order to complete our tasks. Within the locations where we'll work there is plenty of spacing for keeping social distance between different individuals or bubbles.

This event ends at 12noon. After the event is over, pre-bagged lunches will be safely provided by BNLP for CITO participants who signed up for a bag lunch by the Sunday before the event. The luncheon is not part of the CITO event; it's just a nice after-party thank you for all those who worked to help us complete these tasks.

Please log your will-attend as far in advance as possible so we can plan and be ready for you. Include the number attending in your party if you plan on joining us for lunch after the CITO. And be aware that everything we do will have your pandemic safety in mind and we expect that all attendees will comply with CDC guidelines while here at the event, including social distancing and masking.

Permission for this CITO event has been granted by Keith Wheeler of the Brandwein Institute.
