Geocache Description:

Granite outcrops of volcanic origin on south side of Chena River forty five miles east of Fairbanks. Thirteen mile round trip hike on good trail. Consider serious bear protection and stay alert, several bear encounters have occurred in this location. If you see a bear, look for a second bear.

Chena Hotsprings Road to North Fork of Chena River. Granite Tors Trail, take East Ridge cutoff. Fork in trail at about 5.5 mile, GPS will tell you which way to go. Much of this area burned off recently so wildflowers and berries will grow in a riotous profusion of color in years to come. There are several decent campsites on dry high ground for those willing to hump in the gear. Moose frequent the area. We found wolf sign close to the cache. There have been reports of bear encounters here, and one intrepid cacher discovered a marmot cohabitating with the cache box. Watch the sky as the tops can get socked in with rapidly changing cold and wet weather. Bring wind and rain gear even on a nice day. Chocolate helps alot. There are a couple of springs to be found. Leave no food in cache.
More recent fires TORched the site which is now moved to a new location nearby the old one. The above coordinates are new, thanks to Daddy Ladybug and several other outstanding Fairbanks Cachers.

Note: if you score Geocache benchmarks, you are now close to "Munson" benchmark disk at N64 53.384 W146 09.917. Check it out!
