Geocache Description:

The best Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, like metro station area planning, include consideration not just of the transit flows but the wider road design and urban environment. This section of the BRT corridor provides an excellent example of how BRT can not only improve travel options but enchance the surroundings. Before the BRT, the whole park in this section was lined with the ugly wall which this cache sits attached to, which now remains intact for only a short section.

In 2010, together with the BRT implementation, the city implemented a policy to remove the exterior walls of parks, a move which had already been anticipated during the BRT construction in 2009, which was when the walls came down. This remaining short section of wall where a reward lurks has recently been enhanced with the addition of some greenery.

Knocking down perimeter walls around urban parks in densely populated areas can significantly enhance the urban environment and improve residents' quality of life. This action can create a sense of openness and integration, effectively expanding the visual and physical accessibility of green spaces to the public. With increased visibility, parks can become more inviting and appear larger, encouraging more usage and promoting physical activity and outdoor social interaction among residents, contributing to their mental and physical well-being. The street alongside the park also becomes much more attractive to pedestrians faced with views of a park rather than a wall. This approach can enhance the aesthetic appeal of the city, creating a more natural, seamless transition between urban structures and green spaces. It can also alleviate the perceived intensity of urban density by providing unobstructed views of greenery, thereby reducing stress associated with city living.
