Pythagorean Theorem Day is a day that is celebrated when the sum of the squares of the first two parts of the date equals the square of the last part. i.e. December 16, 2020 (16² + 12² = 20²).
So what, I hear you say! I've never needed to know that a² + b² = c².
Pythagorean's theorum is used by you every day, even if you don't realise it. It’s one of the greatest achievements of Greek geometry (although it's it debated that some ancient cultures also had this knowledge, but didn't have access to Pythagoreus' publicity crew). Your GPS software uses it. Computer graphics cards use it, it’s been crucial to the construction industry since the ancient Egyptians. Whether you know it or not, this theorum is used everyday by millions of people.
The last Pythagorean Theorem Day was August 15, 2017 (15² + 8² = 17²). After this event, there will only be another two in your lifetime**, 24th July 2025 and 24th October 2026.
So lets big it up for right angled triangles and their hypotenuse lengths in Adelaide's own right angled triangle park!
The purpose of this event it a social outdoor gathering to discuss mathematics and/or geocaching.
