Gold Hill (Dorset) Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Gary & Jane: We visited the cache today to replace the wet scroll only to find that the contents had been raided yet again (by local children, we think) so we've decided to archive it. Thanks to everyone who visited.

Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden on Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, a Saxon hilltop town full of quaint corners and lovely views. The steep cobbled street with its picturesque cottages was made famous by the 1974 Hovis advert featuring a young delivery boy free-wheeling down the hill on his bike.

Pay & Display parking is available at N51°00.427 W002°11.867 (ST862231) (50p for an hour, free on Sunday). The cache is a 5 minute walk from the car park. If you're lucky you may be able to find free on-road parking on the High Street near the top of Gold Hill. Click here for a map.

After replacing the cache we suggest that you continue to the bottom of Gold Hill, turn right, and return via the playground up a zig-zag path to Park Walk. The playground has some good hill slides and the views from Park Walk are spectacular. You can see our Win Green cache from here. Look to the east and you'll see the instantly recognisable semi-circular clump of trees on the horizon.

The cache is a black plastic pot about twice the size of a film canister so tiny swops (and no calling cards or travel bugs) please! Pin badges are an ideal size. The cache was last restocked on 21 October 2007. Don't feel obliged to take anything but please leave something of similar value if you do. All our trade items are new and despite being small cost around £1 each. Please take a pen with you to log your visit as to save space there isn't one in the cache.

The cache site is directly opposite some cottages so please be as discreet as you can. You might like to take the weight off your feet before you start searching!
