Geocache Description:

The Church of St Mary, Wherstead is grade II listed building with, in my opinion, the most beautiful views from any church I have visited anywhere in the UK. Whether it's spring, summer, autumn or winter I never tire of looking down at the banks of the Orwell and the iconic bridge.

As with so many churches in Suffolk it dates back to medieval England. It's origins can be traced to the 12th-century and since then it has been continually added to, most notably the nave (14th-century), the tower (15th-century) and the porch (19th-century).

If you are fortunate enough to find the church open you'll be able to see some wonderful stained glass windows, some impressive woodcarvings by local man Henry Ringham (Ringham Road off Cauldwell Hall Road is named after him) and some fine stonemasonry, also completed by another Ipswich craftsman, James Williams.
