Church micro #331 St Mary de Haura - Shoreham
This is known as the 'new' Shoreham church. That said it still dates back to 1103. It was founded by Philip de Braose, whose father William had fought with William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings. De Haura means, of the harbour.
Half of the church has disappeared over the years although you can still see some of the remains in the grounds. It's built of Caen stone and contains a tall crossing tower with transepts to north and south, and a large aisled chancel to the east. The design is a mixture of Romanesque and Transitional.
