How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

31 October 2020, 09:30 - 10:15

WHO:

  • Geocachers, GPS enthusiasts and people with an interest in the topic (new comers welcome).
  • Please RSVP and place your breakfast order by logging a "Will Attend" and indicate if you will be alone or have a "+1", "+2" etc and what you would like (see "how").

WHAT:

  • A GeoCaching GeoCoffeeLateBreakfast GeoEvent where people with an interest in geocaching can catch up and discuss geocaching, and GPS enthusiasm (with a free breakfast provided by the CO).
  • Event caches are gatherings that are organised and attended by geocachers. It’s the geocaching version of a party.
  • I will provide a late-ish free breakfast comprising (rustic) egg & bacon rolls (with butter, cheese and/or sauce/relish if you like), tea/coffee (the CO's barista skills extend to instant coffee & tea bags with hot water from a thermos and some milk) and a supply of fresh (tap) water.
  • We will discuss the 3-Arch Bridge, Rocky Hills Probation Station (just North), and Spikey Bridge (further North).
  • After everyone has eaten we will decide whether (or not) to stroll 200m south and investigate the 3-arch bridge and/or the lookout to the north.

WHEN:

  • Saturday 31st October 2020 starting at 9:30am-ish.
  • It is around 90 minutes drive from Hobart (via Orford) and about 120 minutes from Launceston (via Lake Leake).

WHERE:

  • Mayfield Beach Campground, off the Tasman Highway (A3) north of Little Swanport and south of Rocky Hills.
  • There is parking there and (depending on numbers and) we should be able to secure a picnic table.  If all picnic tables are taken, we'll start on the beach and have a walk from there.
  • Depending on the weather it might be a nice spot for a swim afterwards (for the keen!).

WHY:

  • I thought this was a nice place for an event.
  • There's a beach right next to the event area, an interesting 3-arched bridge nearby to the South, and a lookout to the North, both of which would make a nice stroll.

HOW:

  • This is a PWS-managed Open Air campground which is currently open, and has toilets.  Although it is managed by PWS it is NOT part of a national park and therefore there is no admission fee.
  • Current COVID-19 restrictions permit small events such as this in Tasmania.

Example "Will attend log":

Will attend +1.
1x Egg & bacon roll with relish
1x Egg roll with cheese and pepper
1x Tea with milk
1x Coffee with no milk, 2 sugars
(message me if there are any special dietary requirements)

COVID-19 Housekeeping

Please adhere to the current government guidelines here: https://www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/families-community/gatherings-density-and-physical-distancing and the updated Augst 28th Public Health Directives (availble on the same website, or newer directives if they are made).

The space is an "in an undivided space outdoors" therefore:

  • A maximum of 500 people can attend (although unlikely, I will prioritse "first in best dressed" for "Will Attend" logs).
  • Maximum density limit of one person per 2 square metres (this is why I ask for RSVPs for numbers, as I will attempt to secure a space of this size).
  • Hand sanitiser will be available.
  • Where practicable attendees should maintain a distance of 1.5 metres from other people.

DO NOT ATTEND IF:

  • You are unwell, have a cough, fever or any other potential symptoms of COVID-19.
  • You have been in contact with someone suspected of having COVID-19 or have attended an area known to have COVID-19 outbreaks.
  • You have been ordered to self-isolate/quarantine.

Many factors may place some individuals at higher risk of acquiring an infection and/or experiencing a severe resultant illness.  Please consider this in your decision to attend.

Due to the changing situation, it may be necessary to relocate this event nearby and any changes will be logged as announcements to this event page.
