As we were approaching Geocaching's 21st birthday in early May this year, I wondered what I should do
with the event gifted to me to host, So I looked back in time to our local geocaching history.
As it all had to start somewhere, locally.
Happy 18th Birthday Townsville GeoCaching!
Not far from this spot, almost 18 years ago to the day Townsville's First Geocache was hidden
Townsville First
It was located at the top of Townsville's most striking natural feature.
Sempervirens, Kew Em Juan & Malcolm in the middle placed this cache during a brief port visit on their way home from Operation Iraqi Freedom
as a hat tip to the people of Townsville "- always great hosts and wonderful friends, thank you. If you get the chance I strongly recommend the trip. Always worth the time."
and with that, Geocaching in Townsville commenced
This little event will hopefully be a hat tip to that and many other caches in the area
to thank those current and past cachers on the Townsville Geocaching scene
hopefully there will be cake, and nibblies
and maybe even a few trackables handed out
