Geocache Description:

10 April 2021, 10:00 - 12:00

This Community Celebration Hike is at one of my family's favorite places to go hiking in the spring and fall.  We like to go here so maybe we can see the baby bison, they are called pumpkins because of their color.  During this hike we have to take safety preautions because of the bison.  Bison are beautiful creatures but can be very dangerous, for this reason we must stay 200 yards away if we spot any.  Please remember that all animals in this park are wild and we are visiting their home.

Bring your binoculars.  There are lots of birds and other wildlife to see out here.  Hopefully some of the spring wild flowers will also be in bloom.

Also don't forget water, sunscreen and bug spray.  This trail is on a prairie so there is no shade. Dogs are not allowed at Prairie State Park, so no dogs, please.

The posted coordinates are at the visitor center parking lot and we will take off from here on foot and hike the 2.9 mile Dover's Trail. Parking is available here at the event GZ and across the street. After the hike we will gather for a group picture back at the trailhead (same GZ as the event). There will be an event log to sign and maybe a door prize or two to give away.

At this time the only available restrooms are the vault toilets at the campground.

For more information about this trail you can find the trail information PDF here, https://apps5.mo.gov/trails/fullMap.action

The Praire State Park website has a great deal of information to check out. https://mostateparks.com/park/prairie-state-park

Please maintain social distance standards while attending this outdoor event. This event is a mostly all weather event. I will rechedule if lightning or tornados are expected.
