[06 July 2022*** Now part of the War Memorial series***]
Another hide from the Darlastion History series, situated on Victoria Road, with a few places worth noticing. From a War Memorial and an old Post Office opened in 1912, to Town Hall and Victoria Park on the opposite side, leading to a historic town centre.
The war memorial was built on the site of Darlaston House, the home of the Mills family, who gave the land on which the house was built to the town for use as a public park. The Darlaston House was demolished, and Victoria park opened in 1902 as a belated commemoration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
The War Memorial in Victoria Road was built as a tribute to those who died in World War I and II. The names of 270 men, who died in World War I are listed on four plaques, one on each side of the pedestal. Darlaston Memorial includes also the names of many who died as a result of their wounds, from the end of the war until 1927, when the memorial was built. A plaque with the World War II dead was unveiled on the front face in 1947.
Darlaston Town Hall was opened in 1888, built on the site of one of the town's two workhouses.
Darlaston Town Hall in about 1936. The Post Office on the right, opened in 1912.
You are looking for a nano magnetic containter, situated opposite the War Memorial near the main gate of Victoria Park, tweezers might be required. It is a highly muggly area so please stay extremely stealthy.
