About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. In 1869 steam trains ran regularly between Thetford and Swaffham stopping here at Stow Bedon. The line, known locally as the Crab and Winkle, was particularlybusy during World War Two when it was used by Servicemen from nearby RAF Watton.
In 1965 Stow Bedon station was part of the Beeching cuts as the service was declared uneconomical. There are almost no railway artefacts or infrastructure visible here now. What was one of the level-crossing gateposts leans at an angle at the end of an access road to a house and public car park.
