Ticknall Methodist Church is part of the South Derbyshire Methodist Circuit. As with other Methodist Churches in the area, the history of Methodism goes back over 200 years. Methodists in Ticknall were meeting in cottages and these were becoming overcrowded, so in 1792 the Ticknall Methodist Trustees paid 15 shillings for part of a garden on the old coach road from Calke Abbey to the Parish Church (now Chapel Street). This plot, on which the first building was constructed, was opposite the present chapel. A few years later due to growing congregations a gallery was added to increase the capacity of the chapel. Even this proved insufficient and early in the new century a new, larger place of worship was required and this, the present building, was completed in 1815. It is Grade II listed.
Now to the cache, it is a short walk away and you will need to collect some information from the church and a nearby object.
At the church, the gates have a number of large bolts visible. How many on each gate? Call this A.
On the telegraph pole there is a yellow label with some punched-out numbers, call the two-digit number BC.
Also on the telegraph pole there is a number DP EFG.
The final co-ordinates are N52 48.AB(F+G) W001 28.(E+G)C(B+F). As a checksum the missing digits in the co-ordinates add up to 32.
Please rehide the cache carefully and watch out for stingers at GZ.
Limited parking is available at the village hall, please use the far end of the car park, but be aware the lane and entrance are quite narrow and watch out for the ramp at the entrance. Please do not park on the road the church is on as parking there is for residents only.
