Geocache Description:

20 August 2020, 19:00 - 19:30

Gather your inflatables, SUPs, tubes, and other 'floaty' things for a little float down the Elbow.

We will meet Thursday, August 20th, at 7:00 pm at Stanley Park, after floating down the Elbow River from Sandy Beach.

At 7:25 pm we will take a group photo at Stanley Park.

At 7:30 pm please make your own arrangements to get back to the parking lot at Sandy Beach if needed.

For those who will float there, it takes 30-45 minutes from the Sandy Beach put-in.

Please see the waypoints for parking locations and where to put-in and take-out.

  • Please register for this event by logging your 'Will Attend' with the number of people in your group.
  • Registration will be closed if/when attendance reaches 100.
  • City of Calgary restrictions for lakes, rivers and reservoir require that we must maintain physical distancing.
  • No travelbugs please.
  • If you are feeling ill the day of the event, please stay home.

WATERCRAFT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Each person must wear a properly-fitting life jacket or personal flotation device. (City by-law)
  • A sound-signaling device (whistle, air-horn, bell)
  • A paddle
  • A rope that floats (e.g. polypropylene) for rescue or to pull your craft to safety
  • A bailing device for sit-in crafts

PLEASE NOTE: The water level is reasonable, so it should be suitable for low-draft canoes or kayaks. Pool inflatables might not be durable enough for the gravel river bed.
Please visit https://rivers.alberta.ca for up-to-date information.

For those who wish to bike there, the Elbow River pathway goes right by both locations.
