In februari 2020 is de Radboud-plaquette die verwerkt was in de gevel van de school die hier tot 2001 heeft gestaan en welke bewaard gebleven was hier geplaatst. De officiele onthulling heeft echter vanwege de COVID-19 uitbraak nooit plaatsgevonden.
Stenen plaquette afmetingen: 68 cm breed en 150 cm hoog
U ziet hier een beeltenis van bisschop Radboud. Hij was bisschop van het bisdom Utrecht van 899 tot 917. Een groot deel van zijn leven heeft hij besteed aan wetenschap en scholing. Bovenaan zijn ook de heiligen Maria met Kind, Lucia met palmtak en Agnes met lam te zien. Dit kunstwerk staat hier op de plaats waar vanaf april 1952 een (M)ULO-school voor jongens en meisjes heeft gestaan.
Vrij snel na de Tweede Wereldoorlog, in oktober 1945, was deze school al van start gegaan in het provisorisch herstelde patronaatsgebouw en telde toen 78 kandidaat-leerlingen. Later is in 1952 het schoolgebouw opgetrokken waar deze plaquette op nagenoeg dezelfde wijze in de gevel was verwerkt zoals nu in dit kunstwerk. De naam (M)ULO werd in 1968 gewijzigd in MAVO. De eerste directeur was de heer Verhoeven, die opgevolgd werd door respectievelijk de heren Boumans, van Trigt en Bierhoff. In 1997 werd de scholengemeenschap Varendonck opgericht waarin de Radboud MAVO is opgegaan. De lokalen werden nog gebruikt tot het schooljaar 2000-2001.
Dit kunstwerk is het resultaat van een burgerinitiatief in 2020 om het stukje geschiedenis op deze plek niet verloren te laten gaan.

In February 2020 the Radboud plaque, that had been incorporated into the facade of the school that stood here until 2001, and has always been preserved after the building was removed, was placed here. The official disclosure of this plaque never took place due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Here you see an image of Bishop Radboud. He was bishop of the Diocese of Utrecht from 899 to 917. He spent much of his life on science and education. At the top of the plaque the saints Mary with Child, Lucia with palm branch and Agnes with lamb are also shown. From April 1952 this location has been home to the (M) ULO school for boys and girls. Soon after the Second World War, in October 1945, this school had already started in the provisionally restored patronage building and by then had 78 prospective students. Later in 1952 the school building was erected here where this plaque was incorporated in the facade in much the same way as it is now in this artwork. The name (M) ULO was changed to MAVO in 1968. The first director was Mr Verhoeven, who was respectively succeeded by Messrs Boumans, van Trigt and Bierhoff. In 1997 The Varendonck school community was established, in which the Radboud MAVO was incorporated. The classrooms were still used until the 2000-2001 school year. This work of art is the result of a citizens' initiative in 2020 to ensure that the piece of history in this place is not lost.
